About the role

  • Support the Depot Transport Specialist in delivering Transport change projects

  • Work with the Depot Transport Specialist to identify opportunities for further transport optimisation understanding the balance between service and cost.

  • Understand existing Transport and Fleet legislative requirements and review processes to support operational adherence.

  • Review changes in legislation and work with Depot Transport Specialist to support implementation of compliance changes, providing information gathered from a variety of systems.

  • Be able to provide data and insight for compliance adherence across.

    • Operational process compliance (liaising with Analytics & Compliance team)

    • Fleet compliance-including vehicle downloads, driver hours, fleet servicing, mots, LOLER, tachograph, accident management (including trend analysis) and damage reduction plans

    • MHE Compliance- including safety inspections, LOLER testing & insurance inspections

    • Transport compliance-including tachograph infringement management and Working Time Directive adherence. Supporting the Operational team with identifying driver non-compliance to log on / log off and break timings. Driver license checks and Digi-card downloads.

    • Transport training and agency induction compliance-support the Transport Change & Compliance Lead to ensure our Transport Trainers are working in line with company expectations and legislation. 

    • Coordinate Logistics UK audits

    • Work together with our H&S team in instances of H&S and Transport/Fleet compliance overlap such as audit and investigations.

    • Take ownership for your tasks and constantly strive to improve your performance, showing enthusiasm and initiative for new ideas

    • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships across a variety of stakeholders, including Union partnerships

    • Operate within legislation, policy and process in all matters ranging from people management to safety, health and environment

    • Liaise with vehicle maintenance units (VMUs) and tyre company’s at both their base location and across the distribution network to understand fleet movements across the year and guarantee the correct information is received/transferred with these movements to ensure the business remains legally compliant

    • Constantly evaluate if you are working towards the right priorities, and spot opportunities for process improvement within the Transport function

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • CPC certificate would be beneficial however is not essential.

  • Know where to find the relevant legislation, policy and process in all matters relating to your working location.

  • Awareness of the need to build relationships with peers and stakeholders and are authentic in building and maintaining these.

  • Ability to make decisions within given procedures and guidelines to achieve a given outcome.

  • Be able to break down issues and analyse data to solve problems and build on your expertise.

  • Ability to organise, plan and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and timescales.

  • Build collaborative working relationships and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders across a variety of levels.

  • Confident in making decisions in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

  • Stay optimistic in the face of problems/obstacle in your area.

  • An awareness of working in a highly Unionised environment.
