The Long Range Radars Department within Systems Engineering & Test Capabilities (SE&TC) is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer for the new X-Band Transportable Radar-2 program (XTR-2). This role is a key leadership position within the program, which serves as the system design focal point and acts as the principal arbiter of system requirements and performance. As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will apply systems thinking and leverage your technical expertise to shape initial concepts into optimized system designs that balance performance, cost, and schedule objectives. In close collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE), you will ensure technical integrity, mission alignment, and seamless execution across program teams.
The Long Range Radars department specializes in delivering world‑class missile defense and sensor systems through expertise in concept development, architectural design, requirements generation and flow‑down, modeling and simulation, systems analysis, integration, testing, and evaluation. Our success is driven by the dedication of our people, robust processes and advanced technology.
What You Will Do
As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will be a key architect of the XTR-2 program’s success by defining, analyzing, and leading the system’s technical baseline. Your leadership will drive system performance, risk management, and cross-disciplinary integration to achieve a high-performing, coherent design. Key responsibilities include:
Maintain accountability for the system requirements baseline
Allocate and manage system performance margins across all subsystems
Develop and lead the execution of the system modeling and simulation plan
Assess and clearly communicate performance impacts associated with technical risks
Conduct system‑level trades to ensure allocated system and subsystem performance requirements are met
Drive consistency and coherence of the system design across IPTs, CPTs, and key stakeholders
Ensure robust systems engineering representation on applicable engineering boards to uphold technical rigor and mission alignment.
Partner with the Program Office to ensure the engineering team aligns with program cost, schedule, and technical objectives.
