About the role

Located in a historic neighborhood in the nation's capital, Georgetown offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, exciting ways to take advantage of Washington, D.C., and a commitment to social justice. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.

Requirements

Georgetown University’s Office of Advancement is committed to cultivating a safe, equitable, diverse, and inclusive work environment that honors the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our broader colleagues and broader Georgetown community. Consistent with our Jesuit values, we aim to foster a culture that accepts and cares for each individual, and we believe this is central to achieving our goals in support of Georgetown’s mission. Alumni Engagement is a large, complex division within the Office of Advancement and is composed of 80+ professional staff organized across four critically important teams: Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns, and the Discovery Initiative. These teams are designed to meaningfully engage alumni with Georgetown through volunteerism, giving, events, professional development, and other digital and in-person interactions.

The Director, Alumni Engagement Strategic Initiatives, serves the Alumni Engagement team in two critical ways: (1) driving priority alumni engagement and fundraising work of the Alumni Engagement team with a focus on project management and tackling complex, operationally-focused challenges within Alumni Engagement and its partners; (2) serving the Associate Vice President and the Alumni Engagement senior leadership team as a thought partner and facilitator in areas of operational opportunity, change management, and organizational strategy and growth. This position plays a critical role in ensuring Georgetown continues to expand and deepen its engagement with over 215,000 alumni, primarily through volunteer programs, events, outreach, and fundraising. The Director conceives of, plans, and implements short- and long-term projects that help Georgetown achieve its alumni engagement goals. They develop and communicate clear timelines, objectives, and metrics for each project, often convening groups of cross-functional colleagues, including senior leadership, and they monitor, track, and communicate progress. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for several ongoing, cross-team projects, including:

  • Facilitate and oversee annual and long-term planning, including establishing and communicating clear timelines, expectations, and resources.

  • Monitor, assess, and communicate progress on Alumni Engagement’s annual and long-term goals.
Oversee Alumni Engagement’s budget, including facilitating strategic and thoughtful planning, tracking, and reporting.

  • Lead the Alumni Engagement Metrics project, which includes oversight of a cross-functional working group and partnering with Advancement colleagues to develop guidelines, dashboards, reports, and other tools.

  • Identify opportunities and lead efforts to foster greater cohesion, coordination, and collaboration across Alumni Engagement’s teams, to include team meetings and retreats.

  • Establish relationships, methods, programs, and plans that build greater alignment and foster communication among internal staff and key partners to advance Alumni Engagement’s priorities.

  • Maintain a strong grasp of alumni engagement work and a data-driven mindset with the ability to enhance our work through Georgetown’s customer relationship management system, GU360 (a Salesforce system).

Work Interactions
The Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement and is a critical member of the Alumni Engagement team. The Director manages the Special Assistant to the Associate Vice President, Alumni Engagement, who provides administrative support to the AVP and other Alumni Engagement leadership, and ensures the AVP’s time is appropriately deployed and optimized. The Director will work closely with senior staff and colleagues from across OA and the University, and will regularly represent the Associate Vice President and other leaders in key discussions, projects, and working groups. Some nights and weekends will be required, with advance notice.
