As a Pharmacy Technician, you play an essential role in keeping patients safe and comfortable throughout their outpatient experience. Your ability to work efficiently and pay close attention to detail helps facilitate a positive, streamlined experience. Ultimately, you will do so much more than count prescriptions and ring out patients. You will make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers. 

A caregiver in this position works a PRN schedule, with shifts from 8:00AM - 4:30PM, 8:00AM - 6:30PM, 8:30AM - 7:00PM and 9:00AM - 1:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, including completion of necessary documentation. 
  • Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the medical center including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets. 
  • Perform floor checks, stock checks and assigned unit review as required. 
  • Assist Pharmacists in monitoring stock for outdated medications and properly dispose of them in a timely manner. 
  • Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts and compound non-sterile medications according to USP795 regulations. 
  • Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 
  • Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. 
  • Interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Pyxis, Carousels, etc.) and Pharmacy Keeper software, to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order. 
  • Assist customers at service window including house staff, couriers and others as needed. 
  • Perform general cleaning duties as assigned to maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy areas. 
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) 
  • Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Hospital inpatient experience  
  • Pharmacy Technician experience 
  • Proficiency in technical skills used in pharmacy practice 
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations
