About the role

Overview

Facilitates a variety of projects which support Dartmouth-Hitchcock (Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Clinics and Shared Services) and the Dartmouth Health System.  Promotes a collaborative relationship with Finance professionals, with operational management and leaders within Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Manage the finance team to identify and assess key financial performance trends and integrate findings into financial plans, formal reports, and presentations for Dartmouth-Hitchcock executive leadership.  Supports the creation of ongoing Dartmouth-Hitchcock annual budget, forecasts, and long-range plan, including the support for Dartmouth Health. Manages the Financial Planning & Analysis department and provides coaching, advice and consultative support to ensure strong financial acumen, collaborative and trusting relationships across all organizational team members, and exceptional service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team which builds reliable business decision support for the organization, including effective communication of analyses. Interviews, hires, and assigns subordinate staff; provides guidance and counsel to subordinate staff; conducts periodic performance evaluations; recommends personnel actions; acts as resource for staff; conducts periodic individual and/or group staff meetings; provides and maintains subordinate staff development plans; and develops standards for subordinate staff performance.
  • Advocate for continued success and implement best practices. Recommend and implement process improvement opportunities.
  • Responsible for identification and adherence regarding industry standards, compliance and best practice.
  • Manages and coordinates analytical support and business analysis for DHMC, Clinics and Shared Services. Promotes successful partnerships between FP&A and operational leaders to ensure a full understanding of financial acumen and sound business decisions throughout the organization.
  • Understands the financial performance of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock and collaboratively develops accurate financial projections reflecting both operating and capital impacts of services. Supports and guides Dartmouth-Hitchcock management and others across the system to determine the impact of programs and services on forecasts, operating budgets, capital budgets, and the five-year plan. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations. Summarizes and presents findings to operational management and finance leadership.
  • Leads the analysis of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock financial results. Support the development and maintains tools to compile, analyze, and interpret monthly system financial results and variances from plan, integrating insights all Finance leads to create a holistic view of the system’s financial performance.
  • Develops and/or oversees development and evaluates financial impact models for innovative programs and services. Promotes a philosophy of financial stewardship and value-based care providing educational presentations as necessary.
  • Provides consistent, high quality financial support, including training and education, to Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Dartmouth Health finance, operating and administrative leadership. Working with staff, creates a structure which builds reliable business decision support for the organization, including effective communication of analyses.
  • Work closely with the Analytics Institute and Finance Systems to enable key statistical metrics to increase availability of actionable core volumes linked to financial, operational, and clinical data required for decision making. Support procedures for acquiring, compiling and reporting accurate and routine key operating, statistical and financial reports.  Implement reporting protocols to ensure all levels of management receive and understand their relevant data on a timely basis.
  • Throughout all financial project management processes:
    • Interacts with and influences staff throughout Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Dartmouth Health system to gather input, test assumptions, and review findings.
    • Ensures that all affected parties are represented in appropriate discussions and decisions.
    • Promotes an understanding of the financial and organizational impact of each project among team members.
    • Efficiently coordinates all aspects of projects to achieve accurate and timely completion.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field with five (5) years financial planning & analysis experience required.
    • Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
    • Experience with a Health Care System, including Academic Medical Center preferred.
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
