This role in summary
Currently, we are seeking a qualified candidate for a Laboratory Technician to join our Cooking Lab Operations Team at the Edgewater Technology Center in St. Joseph, Michigan. While reporting to the Lab Supervisor of Cooking, the technician will be responsible for assembling cooking products, subassemblies and components required for product approval and evaluation testing. The technician will routinely troubleshoot ranges and repair malfunctioning products while working closely with a dedicated team of product engineers and laboratory technicians. In addition, he/she will be working each day to complete the installation of lab instrumentation onto the products that are required for engineering data acquisition.

Your responsibilities will include
Welding thermocouples and securing them to the component(s) within a cooking appliance to monitor and record temperatures
Move appliances from dock to test stations
Follow and perform complex testing procedures under the supervision of another technician.
Provide technical support to project teams and communicate test results
Generating datasheets and test reports with the assistance of a more experienced technician.
Work on multiple test plans under the supervision of a lab technician to ensure testing is completed promptly.
Work to update test equipment and methods in the lab.
Provide product and component testing, analysis, and problem solving while developing and applying a strong understanding of appliance operations and lab procedures.
Take a role in developing, executing, and documenting new test procedures, gathering knowledge through test results and applying that information to analyze problems for root cause.
Maintain a strong communication link to the supervisor and related departments.
Minimum requirements
High School Diploma or GED
6+ months of experience using laboratory equipment such as basic tools, temp chambers, measuring (rulers or electronic scales), or data acquisition tools
Preferred skills and experiences
Comprehensive knowledge of the Whirlpool Cooking and Refrigeration products
Experience with UL, CSA, or ANSI safety standards and test methods
Electrical & mechanical aptitude
Basic computer knowledge
HVAC experience
Electronics experience
Continuous Improvement and 5S mindset
A working knowledge of basic gas and electric, and basic mechanical aptitude or equivalent technical experience.
The ability to quickly become proficient in disassembly and reassembly of home appliances.
Attention to detail and a keen eye for spotting anomalies in product assemblies
