Job Description

The Senior Accountant supports LTC and Annuities activities within the US FSSC area. The role, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting complex financial, accounting and economic analyses, including journal entry preparation, detailed calculations and internal and external reporting.

  • Perform accounting and control activities for IFRS17 and NAIC results
  • Ensure complete, accurate and timely accounting activities across multiple accounting bases including complex accounting transactions, complex accounting systems, review of various analyses, footnotes, and financial statements
  • Responsible for producing contributions to annual reporting including audited financial statements and annual statement schedules
  • Develop quarterly income statement and balance sheet financial analysis and trending
  • Develop a strong understanding of processes and products, creating and maintaining process documentation and training materials as necessary
  • Champion knowledge-building and usage of multiple automated systems which support the monthly and quarterly accounting processes
  • Own SOX/MAR documentation and manage relationship with internal and external auditors

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • Typically, 4 or more years of experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Diligent, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills 
  • Self-starter and great teammate with a high level of initiative, strong work ethic and the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information 
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment 
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications  
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations) 
  • Demonstrates emerging to solid proficiency in own subject area; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.  
  • Demonstrates emerging ability to draft managerial reporting narratives.
