The Job:  

As a Project Quality Engineer, you’ll be part of our LENOX team in East Longmeadow, MA working as an Onsite employee. This role is a contract position with SBD through July of 2025.

The Quality Engineer will drive continuous quality improvement for manufacturing operations in the East Longmeadow facilities.  The scope of responsibility includes supplied material through finished packaged product, ensuring adequate incoming, in-process, and final inspection processes are maintained and improved.  Improvement of inspection methods used by the quality laboratory as well as on the shop floor and productivity and process improvements will be key success factors.  Production and field failure analysis will help identify the opportunities in a fast past paced ISO9001 manufacturing environment. You’ll get to:  

  • Create and maintain procedures associated with the inspection of incoming raw through finished materials.
  • Develop and refine inspection, measurement and control methods and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing processes audit plans.
  • Support operational improvement projects and cascading audits.
  • Contribute as a key team member on quality continuous improvement teams.
  • Investigate supplier, internal and external customer complaints.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and validation of corrective action effectiveness.
  • Provide investigative lab support activities.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred; a candidate with an Associates degree combined with demonstrated industrial experience will also be considered for this hands on role.
  • A metallurgical focus or a related degree is a strong plus.
  • 3yr minimum of practical experience in a metal working industry is preferred.
  • Use of lab measurement equipment: microscopes, hardness testers, micrometers, and advanced measurement and analytical equipment will be required.
  • Technical writing skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required).
  • Experience utilizing Statistical Process Control, gage R&R and capability assessment.
  • Experience with ISO/QS documentation and associated requirements.
  • Able to interpret drawings using a general knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
  • Contribute both independently, as well as in team situations, by possessing technical aptitude, basic problem-solving skills, conflict resolution abilities, prioritization mastery, and demonstrated leadership
  • Ability to work within Windchill and SAP software programs.
  • Experience using scanning electron microscope (SEM).
  • Ability to program and operate optical gaging products, OGP, Keyence, Alicona, Comparitors.
  • Knowledge of PVD and other coating processes.
  • Knowledge of cutting tool materials and their applications.
