Fall Lead Instructor - Intro to Python (remote, California)

As a Lead Instructor, you will be at the forefront of high-quality computer science education by connecting with students to provide an engaging and welcoming classroom environment!

Details

• As a Lead Instructor with us, you’ll be responsible for integrating critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and global citizenship into your classes, tracking student progress, and helping students realize their potential.
• Effectively implement Mission Bit’s computer science curriculum
• Highly visible, student-facing role on the Instruction team, reporting directly to the Innovative Learning Coordinator.
• You must be comfortable suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and our curriculum. You understand that there are always new opportunities for improvement and ways to elevate our standards.

Schedule

Instructor Training

• September 5 - 8

Class Dates

• Monday and Wednesday, 5 - 7 PM
• September 11, 2023 - December 8, 2023

Weekly Meetings

• 1 hour a week to meet with the instructional team (virtual)
• 15 minutes/week to meet with your supervisor

Monthly Meetings:

• 30 minutes/month to meet with the education and curriculum team

Hours

• 5-7 hours per week

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate activities such as lectures, live-coding demonstrations, coding challenges, and Q&A sessions with students in the classroom
• Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
• Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
• Manage volunteers that help in your classroom
• Promote positive, productive collaboration between students
• Communicate and collaborate with TA and other instructional staff
• Communicate student progress and success throughout the course to the Program Staff so we can collectively support students learning
• Ensure students receive the support they need throughout the course to effectively and confidently showcase a capstone project at our Demo Day

Requirements

• Have at least 2+ years of experience in Python
• Must be able to pass a technical skills assessment
• Experience teaching or working with youth is strongly preferred but not required
• Experience effectively working on a team for technical projects
• Punctual, organized, and prepared
• Values aligned with Mission Bit and passion for sharing CS knowledge
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and compelling in public speaking situations
• Experience working with a diverse group of individuals
• Self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously with little oversight
• Communicative, dedicated, flexible with a willingness to experiment

$27.00 / hour
