Overview

Department of Watershed Sciences, Quinney College of Natural Resources. Entry-level Assistant Professor (Climate Data Analysis). 

Responsibilities

Successful candidate for this position will be teaching 4-5 academic courses per year which may include one large-format, 3000 level, undergraduate climate science course for non-majors, one or two upper-level undergraduate/graduate courses in data wrangling/management/analysis, one upper-level undergraduate/graduate course in programming and/or data visualization, and one studio course in climate data at the graduate level; competing for external research grants; mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral researchers; publishing peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic products; collaborating with faculty and extension personnel to create a highly productive team of watershed scientists at Utah State University.

Qualifications

Candidates must have: Doctorate in atmospheric science, meteorology, climatology, earth systems science, hydrology, civil/environmental engineering or related fields. Foreign equivalent degree is acceptable; demonstrated experience teaching courses and conducting research on climate science, with a corresponding publication record; an ability to develop an externally funded research program. Required skills and publication/presentation requirements may be earned during advanced educational studies.

Preferred qualifications include relevant post-doctoral experience; a demonstrated ability to implement innovative teaching methods; experience working with large, multi-dimensional data (e.g. netCDF, HDF, GRIB, TIFF), climate model outputs (i.e. CMIP GCMs, downscaled data), translating gridded climate data into other formats for hydroclimate and ecological analysis, uncertainty and risk quantification, meteorological station time series data, and/or making climate data tools for policymakers and decisionmakers; demonstrated ability and willingness to work productively with land management agencies and various stakeholder groups; record of securing research funding; demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity in STEM fields.
