Senior IT Operations Engineer - Cyber Recovery

As a Cyber Recovery Engineer, we’ll rely on you to provide infrastructure services focusing on designing, installing, configuring, integrating, recovering and automating various technologies related to our open systems Cyber Vault. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise and guidance for design and installation projects using multiple technologies to keep our infrastructure running smoothly. Vanguard strives to continually evolve and modernize our platforms. Our Engineering groups continue to adapt and evolve into a more converged team, and while the focus of this position is storage-centric, we expect and encourage all our engineers to cross train to build skills and expertise in all aspects of our Infrastructure. 
 

In this role, you will: 

• Provide sophisticated level infrastructure services, including installing, configuring, and integrating enterprise data center open systems technologies. Identify stakeholders and participate in project teams. Conduct functional testing and provide recommendations based on the results. Verify installations meet production acceptance standards. 

• Design and implement solutions with a focus on observability and automation. 

• Provide advanced Tier 2/3 services for a specialized environment.  Identify failing components and recommend corrective action.  Identify performance issues, interpret trends, and implement improvements. 

• Document, including knowledge articles, policies and procedures, and diagrams. 

• Play a leadership role in cyber recover testing. 

• Add, update, and close records in the IT Problem Management and Change Management systems. 

• Train and mentor staff Operations teams. Conduct formal and informal knowledge sharing sessions, and one-on-one sessions. 

• Participate in, and support, monitoring and alerting activities of the specialized environment, in addition operate a framework that evaluates capacity planning, vulnerability and patch management.  Initiate actions to prevent degradation caused by capacity issues, vulnerabilities, etc. 

• Interface with technical leads of Vanguard’s engineering team; designing, configuring and maintaining innovative solutions in the infrastructure. 

• Improve performance through high-performing infrastructure. 

 

 

What it takes: 

• Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience. 

• Minimum of 5+ years infrastructure engineering experience. 

• Experience with DevOps 

• Experience with DELLEMC Storage products (SAN, NAS, Object) 

• Familiarity with Compute Technologies (Vmware, VxRail, vSAN, Cisco UCS, HP Proliant) 

• Experience participating in Agile or Lean programs a plus 

• Ability to be in an on-call rotation 

• Independent self-starter to lead projects from design to production 

• Strong written and verbal skills and Strong interpersonal skills 

• Working understanding of code and scripting (PowerShell, Linux Scripting, SYMCLI) 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills. 

• Strong analysis and problem-solving skills. 

 

 

Advanced knowledge on the following focused areas preferred, but not necessary: 

• Knowledge of file & Object storage  

• Knowledge of Linux system administration  

• Knowledge of encrypted Recovery and Replication 

• Knowledge of VMWare 

• Intricate knowledge of IT infrastructure and workflows: hardware, OS, networking, storage, databases, etc. 

• Adequate technical competencies with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery Pipeline process and technologies through the Atlassian product suite (Bitbucket, Bamboo, JIRA and Confluence)
