About the role

Job Purpose
The Educational Therapist provides individualized, evidence-based academic support and intervention for kamaliʻi, addressing learning challenges through a culturally responsive and strengths-based approach. This position works closely with youth, families, and Lili’uokalani Center staff to promote educational success, foster self-confidence, and build essential learning strategies that honor unique strengths and needs.
Lili’uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new Liliʻuokalani Center will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports, and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy. Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Provide individualized academic intervention and support tailored to the specific learning needs of each kamaliʻi
• Collaborate with families/ guardians, Lili’uokalani Center staff, and external providers to develop and implement personalized learning plans
• Use culturally responsive, strengths-based approaches that honor the identities, experiences, and learning styles of kamaliʻi
• Conduct informal assessments to identify learning challenges and track progress over time
• Offer guidance and resources to Lili’uokalani Center staff to strengthen their ability to support diverse learners
• Document services provided, goals set, and progress made to ensure alignment across all support systems.

Other Duties:
• Contribute to LT’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organizational results
• Evening and weekend hours required as needed
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in relevant social services or education preferred
• At least four years of direct service experience, ideally within juvenile justice, or child welfare systems.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a part-time, flexible schedule environment.
• Ability to conduct informal academic assessments and use results to inform individualized interventions
• Must demonstrate knowledge of Hawaiian culture and values, with the ability to integrate these into work with kamali’i
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
• Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract
• TB clearance

• Cultural Competence: Respect and relate well to people from varied backgrounds and sensitive to group differences. Experience working with at-risk youth and ability to apply positive youth development principles to that work
• Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and to remain calm and controlled when faced with challenging situations
Travel Requirements:
In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
