Join HII Elevator Support Unit (ESU) in Chesapeake, VA supporting U.S. Naval shipboard operations with maintenance and modernization efforts. This Marine Mechanic position will have you working closely with our skilled trades teams, utilizing various tools of the trade, removing, installing and upgrading industrial equipment and structures for fleet modernization alterations and installations. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem provided based on location when on travel. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.
What You Will Do
- Considered subject matter expert in Navy Shipboard Elevator repair and modernization.
- May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects.
- Ability to manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs. Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies shipboard elevator mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
- Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on elevators and elevator doors such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Analyzes and evaluates elevator operations and related performance.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses malfunctions, and grooms elevators to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes elevator and elevator door components ensuring coordinative engineering field change.
- Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
- Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.
- Must have experience working on shipboard elevators in a team environment.
- Must have experience installing, maintaining and repairing elevator structural and mechanical systems and associated equipment aboard naval vessels in accordance with technical documentation and naval standards.
- Must be proficient in the use and reading of various measurement devices including but not limited to rulers and scales, micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
- Must have experience using various power tools and hand tools to accomplish tasks including the proper use of torque wrenches to tighten fasteners according to specifications described in technical documentation.
- Must be experienced in reading, interpreting and following blueprints, technical drawings and/or technical manuals.
- Must be familiar with the proper safe working procedures with moving heavy equipment and structures utilizing various rigging gear.
- Must have knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and maintain clearance level through out employment.
- Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials through out employment.
- Must be able to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking.
- Must be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.

- Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
