The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity:
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Tailings Metallurgist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, days shift schedule.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Tailings Superintendent, the Tailings Metallurgist is an integral team member of the mill department, providing technical support to tailings operation superintendent, supervisors, and operators. This will involve an active role in tailings surveillance, material balances and following up on technical requirements to achieve tailings production. The position is also accountable for determining tailings production issues or challenges and providing support. The Tailings Metallurgist is an exciting opportunity to integrate technical services into day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows site's safety, quality, and environmental statndards in all aspects of work,
- Production support to tailings operations in troubleshooting and optimizing operational circuits to achieve production targets,
- Work alongside tailings supervisors and operators to highlight successes and work collaboratively to capture opportunities to achieve operational targets,
- Support tailings operation supervisors in providing technical surveillance and response across the tailing’s operation,
- Conduct material balances, supporting dam construction and water balance,
- Complete pumping analysis supporting water balance,
- Support inspections and reporting by geotechnical Engineer of Record,
- Support circuit specific maintenance,
- Complete downtime reasoning and issues,
- Responsible for daily tailings performance summaries (dayshift and nightshift operation),
- Weekly tailings performance summaries (per crew rotation),
- Facilitate technical crossover between dayshift and nightshift operation and crew rotation changes.
- Maintain working relationship with Mill Metallurgists and Metallurgical Superintendent to provide operational background and guidance on short- and long-term challenges that may require additional resources,
- Sharing circuit performance,
- Providing mill operational feedback to tailings operations supervision,
