Restaurant & Hospitality Finance (RHF) is a rapidly expanding initiative within MUFG’s Global Corporate & Investment Banking Group.  The team finances larger restaurant sector Franchisors, Operating Companies and Franchisees, with particular focus on Quick Service and Fast Casual national brands.

In addition, the group has recently launched an initiative to lend to mid-size hotel franchisees operating under large well known national brands.

An integral part of the RHF team, the Analyst will assist in the management of major client relationships by providing financial analysis, marketing and operational support to Global Relationship Managers (“GRMs”) heading business development efforts.  The position will require credit analysis on proposed deals, staying abreast of client financing plans, and monitoring of portfolio exposures.  The Analyst will handle the operational aspects of business origination such as analyzing portfolio profitability, keeping track of documentation, drafting pitch books, performing follow-through related to the deal origination process, preparing economic capital analysis, KYC coordination, etc. Position will be based at 12760 High Bluff Drive, San Diego CA.

Major Responsibilities:

  • GRM Support - The Analyst will support business development alongside the GRM(s), providing support where needed including industry research, marketing material production, coordination with product areas, as well as other activities as identified by the GRM(s). Key aspects of the job include:
    • Conducting due diligence related to prospective and existing clients
    • Reviewing new business opportunities, preparing and submitting materials used for screening new deals with senior management for approval
    • Developing of client marketing presentations and pitch materials under the direction of the GRM(s)
    • Maintaining the Salesforce Database
    • Coordinating transaction closings with back and middle offices
    • Attending client meetings when appropriate to observe the GRM(s) to develop working knowledge of relationship management
    • Preparing call reports for review and comment by the GRM when the Analyst attends the client meetings
    • Assisting with periodic senior management reporting such as quarterly business updates, financial reporting, annual account planning, etc.

  • Risk and Credit Analysis - Undertaking detailed new opportunity preliminary financial analysis and transaction diligence, including reviewing financial models and financial statements with senior RM
    • Reviewing credit applications, including summaries of expected financial results and risk analysis for submission to risk and control functions
    • Reviewing and analyzing transaction term sheets and documentation with a focus on understanding credit features and covenants in financing documentation
    • Ownership and management of processes required for compliance and execution, including profitability analysis, committee approvals, legal due diligence, KYC, and closing checklists

  • Product Liaison - Liaison with various product areas on GCIB transactions to help develop more extensive knowledge of MUFG's product capabilities. Integrate developing product knowledge into draft presentations and transaction memos

Qualifications – External

  • 1+ Year Corporate Banking related work experience is a decisive asset
  • Credit experience or background i.e., a formal bank credit training program is a plus
  • A BA/BS degree or equivalent required. Banking or related experience is preferred
  • PowerPoint Presentation skills, experience with Excel modeling and Bloomberg
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Previous exposure
