The System Engineering Discipline Lead (DL) serves as the Human Health and Performance Contract first level manager assigned to Human System and Engineering management team supporting multiple NASA Branches. This position is responsible for ensuring the success for multiple projects for International Space Station (ISS), Commercial Crew Program (CCP), Boeing CST-100, and Exploration’s Artemis mission including the Gateway and Human Lander Systems (HLS) Programs. Additionally, the DL performs day-to-day KBR administrative supervisory duties and oversees personnel activities. The DL will dedicate the majority of his/her time improving System Engineering Discipline overall technical competencies, attending to customer relations, and employee oversight. The ideal candidate must be passionate about System Engineering as it applies to spaceflight and be a strong advocate for the discipline team. A successful candidate will flex beyond standard duties when required and be able to adapt quickly and collaboratively to challenges. Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operational concepts to make effective decisions.

 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead, manage, mentor, and supervise the HHPC Engineering System Engineering Team
• Perform KBR administrative duties for the KBR employees in the System Engineering group. Personnel management activities include conflict resolution, problem solving, counseling, mentoring, timesheet review/approval, setting performance goals and conducting performance evaluations, and performing compensation evaluations/reviews.
• Develop and maintain successful professional relationships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports
• Manage staffing, and personnel performance to ensure all task order, specification and Program requirements are successfully met within schedule and proposed budget
• Oversee employee performance and ensure the quality of discipline products.
• Develop and deploy system engineering relative training
• Acquire and develop engineering talent through recruiting and hiring processes
• Identify and implement process and quality improvements that benefit the customer and Engineering Team
• Develop and implement strategies for customer, company, HHPC and Project Management team success
• Assist in technical assignments as designated by the Engineering Leadership Team and complete assignments within agreed to dates.
• Support development and review of project rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates for projects
• Support management meetings, ROM reviews, Risk and Opportunity Management Board meetings and monthly financial reviews
• Maintain regular 4-5 day attendance in 2400 NASA Parkway.
• Responsible for completing all assigned training and ensuring all SE discipline employees complete all required training on-time.
• Define, coordinate, balance, and integrate technical and programmatic issues in an end-to-end manner to ensure that the total system satisfies the customer's requirements, expectations, and constraints within the allocated resources and with acceptable risk.
• Review, maintain, and optimize standard work instructions ensuring both process completeness and process speed
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering department, safety and reliability team members, and discipline-aligned design teams to achieve elegant and reliable solutions
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
• BS in engineering or related technical discipline with 15 years’ experience with NASA projects which has led to increasing levels of technical and managerial/leadership responsibilities.
• Proven knowledge and ability leading a highly skilled and diverse workforce to produce products that meet quality, safety, performance, cost and schedule requirements
•Comprehensive understanding of Hardware/Software System Engineering including the NASA/JSC flight hardware/software processes
• Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with peers, direct reports and upper management in a very dynamic, fast-paced organization to achieve excellent performance
• Ability to effectively and tactfully handle personnel issues
• Experience recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding personnel
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain multiple assignments concurrently
