SENIOR PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER – AUTOMOTIVE SEATING

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN

 

Job Description:

 

Work in a team environment, utilizing engineering and design disciplines, to support Customer timing and expectations. Work with 3D CAD models (feature based, UGNX, CATEIA or other) for product design and ensure design meets all Customer design guidelines for automotive seating.  Complete hand calculations, Sim-Solid, Enventive models or other similar FEA/calculation tools to develop and confirm engineering or product design.  Work with product and manufacturing engineering teams, advanced manufacturing, designers, SMEs, Customer engineering and studio to ensure product appearance, design and manufacturing feasibilities are met.

 

Required Experience and Duties:

  • CAD experience, minimum 5+ years. Proficient in UGNX or CATIA, minimum 3+ years.
  • Strong in feature based solid modeling, utilizing correct disciplines for parametrically controlled solids, curve creation & model tree history, minimum 5+ years.
  • Experience and basic knowledge of TeamCenter Visualization and the JT file format, minimum 2+ years.
  • Automotive seating experience, minimum 3+ years.
  • Strong experience with plastics, foam and structure related to seating
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to different materials such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping & foam mold, and with an understanding of materials specifications, minimum 5+ years.
  • Encompass the total seating environment in product engineering/design development.
  • Confirms manufacturability, design for assembly, and integration knowledge to parts, subsystem designs and vehicle integration.
  • Perform appropriate studies/alternatives/packaging/layouts and participate in recommendations to program direction.
  • Develop, refine and finalize design criteria and typical sections
  • Complete initial model creations, remodeling, and change modeling to current data.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of GD&T principles in product designs.
  • Ability to apply 3D GD&T (PMI) to CAD models is a plus.
  • Ability to mark up and create 2D drawings.
  • Knowledge of the PLM system, data banking standards and DR work requests is a plus.
  • Knowledge in usage of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and maintain solid working relationships a must.
  • Exhibit a high level of creativity and initiative, requiring minimal design direction.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • 2-year Associates Degree with Mechanical background is a required, 4-year degree is a plus.
