Job Duties:
The Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI). DBVI is an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia that provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence.
We are seeking an Administrative Assistant.
Purpose of Position:
Assist the Library and Resource Center program and Education Services with administrative functions. Provide administrative support to LRC Staff and Education Coordinators to facilitate timely and appropriate provision of services.
Additional duties are but not limited to:
Education Services:
• Assists with paperwork for low vision authorizations.
• Sources with low vision aids.
• Requests eye reports from medical offices
• Assists with applications and parental signatures as needed.
Library and Resource Center:
• Completes the annual American Printing House for the Blind Quota Registration.
• Works with Teachers of the Visually Impaired as requested to obtain data.
• Research products for office supplies and maintains the supply area needs and requests.
Library and Resource Center/Education Services:
- Maintains understanding of policy and procedures within program areas, sufficient to complete all necessary paper and electronic documentation.
- Accurate data entry of information for AWARE case records to include end of the year reports from school systems and maintaining APH Quota information.
- Facilitates agreements and reports for adaptive equipment requests.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience:
• Experience providing administrative support to a group of professionals
• Experience in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with inventory control
• Experience using computer databases
• Administrative office experience
Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to work with automated databases
• Good computer skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral/written) skills
• Knowledge of inventory control
• Problem solving with routine issues
• Ability to organize and schedule work, prioritize, to establish and maintain good relationships
