Senior Manager Fluids Systems Engineering

The Manager of Fluids Systems Engineering leads a team of Mechanical Engineers responsible for design and integration of complex fluids systems. This role is accountable for the technical output, staffing, development, and performance of a small, high-impact team (typically 4-8 direct reports) delivering end-to-end engineering solutions. Working under general direction from senior engineering leadership, the manager sets team priorities, allocates engineering resources across competing operational demands, and personally engages in technical decision-making on the most complex or highest-risk problems. The manager partners across a diverse set of technical and operational stakeholders, ensuring the team's engineering judgment is applied consistently across the supporting disciplines that surround a successful integration effort.

As part of a diverse and hard-working team of engineers, you will design and develop ground fluids systems for a development program. You will be responsible for these systems’ complete product life cycle from initial requirements through system commissioning including design, manufacturing, test support, performing test data reviews, processing non-conforming hardware, and writing technical reports. The fluids sub-system hardware consists of the cryogenic storage & distribution systems, high pressure storage & distribution pneumatic systems, and other related fluid systems required to operate a novel architecture. You will need to have a strong technical background in ground system fluid design and development to industry standards and regulations. The position will require some travel to our Launch Site One facility in West Texas to support development, maintenance, and operations as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the Fluids Subsystem
  • Lead scope definition, subsystem priorities, and day-to-day activities of a team of dedicated engineers, designers, and analysts to create solutions to complex problems
  • Work with in and out of house production organizations to resolve challenges encountered during manufacturing or procurement of fluid systems.
  • Work with ground and MRO teams to resolve challenges encountered on the fielded equipment to fabricate, install, activate, and operate our systems.
  • Ensure operations and maintenance activities are conducted consistent with design intent and defined requirements.
  • Collaboration with a Project Manager, develop and integrate project schedules and analyze/optimize those schedules to meet program goals and deadlines.
  • Coordinate resource support plans with the production and engineering functional organizations.
  • Collaboration with technical designers and configuration management to establish product structures and configuration management for the entire subsystem.
  • Required to take ownership of dependencies, including engineering deadlines; supply chain and internal manufacturing as necessary to support end item delivery schedule

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (electrical or computer desired)
  • Domain professional in ground fluids system architecture through design and development
  • Strong technical fundamentals.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards including ASME B31.3, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), IEST-STD-CC1246, State and Federal regulations, and other aerospace fluids related specifications.
  • Proficiency with computer aided design (CAD) tools.
  • Experienced with project management toolsets and methods.
  • 10+ year of industry experience in a related field
