Position Summary:
The energetic and motivated Associate Director will leverage their technical and operational skills to lead a team of scientists executing routine and non-routine assays. Assay execution is in support of process development, including the CAR-T and gene edited cellular drug product, lentiviral and AAV vectors, and other gene delivery associated drug substances. The candidate will lead a team of flow cytometrists, molecular biologists, biophysical scientists, and cell biologists and will be responsible for managing direct and indirect reports. The individual will leverage their deep understanding of virology, immunology, and assay development principles to interpret results and communicate with process development engineers and CMC teams. Excellent communication and organization skills are required, and the individual is expected to seek operational excellence and to be skillful in leadership of teams and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:
- Actively drive the development, growth, career planning, and empowerment of individuals through deliberate and thoughtful strategies. Seek to provide an optimal environment for individuals, teams, and the enterprise to flourish
- Pursue operational excellence by continuous refinement of systems. e.g. assay training, assay request, assay assignment, and data reporting infrastructure. Drive efficiencies in lab & reagent management and assay execution
- Leverage knowledge of virology, immunology, and analytical techniques to mentor team in troubleshooting method performance and method compatibility with novel process intermediates
- Actively collaborate with Analytical Development colleagues to flag method development needs and gaps, address method performance observations, and seek strategic and mutually beneficial solutions
- Interpret assay results in context of experimental goals and contribute to various process development and CMC objectives by providing technical knowledge across programs and platforms
- Direct the exploration of novel technologies and development of robust, precise, and fit-for-purpose bioanalytical assays to characterize cell and vector products and intermediates
- Proactively support expansion of general knowledge within cell therapy development function and maintain awareness of competitive landscape in the cellular immuno-oncology space.
- Reinforce safe workplace practices in accordance with company and OSHA policies & procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- PhD or expert knowledge in Virology, Immunology, Cellular / Molecular Biology, or related discipline
- Demonstrated track record of leading teams to achieve objectives. 5+ years of experience managing direct reports or matrix teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills supporting critical technical and business decisions.
- Experience in Cell Therapy analytical development or analytical operations
- Strong organizational skills and ability to track and prioritize competing objectives
- Familiarity with flow cytometry, molecular, and cell-based assay techniques as well as analytical development principles and ICH guidelines
- Desire to develop, mentor, and coach team members to achieve high levels of engagement and successful delivery of objectives
- Desire to acquire new skills and knowledge
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $166,000 - $208,000,
