BWXT is currently seeking a Computational Multiphysics Research Engineering Intern for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, Virginia!

As a Computational Multiphysics Research Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and testing of computational nuclear multiphysics software. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your career in nuclear and thermal engineering.

 

This position is an in-person position located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Housing stipend is available for eligible interns.

 

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of a MOOSE-based multiphysics workflow coupling Mixcoatl (conjugate heat transfer) and OpenMC (depletion neutronics) via the Cardinal application.
  • Investigate various coupling strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Develop and document test cases to support the verification of MOOSE based structural mechanics code.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a bachelor’s, master's, or Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering or a related field.
  • Must have a strong understanding of neutronics, heat transfer, and/or thermal-hydraulics.
  • Must have experience with and understanding of the MOOSE finite element framework.
  • Must have experience with the OpenMC Monte-Carlo code.
  • Must have proficiency with Linux HPC environment.
  • Must be familiar with Git.
  • Must have proficiency in programming, with a preference for Python and C++ languages.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Must be self-motivated and eager to learn.
  • Experience with Cardinal or other MOOSE-based applications is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
