MASS draws on the full toolkit of index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. Our team of 300+ multi-asset investment professionals constructs active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS manages over $1 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in New York, San Francisco, London and throughout Asia Pacific.
 

Team Overview:

The Americas Pensions team within the MASS business constructs and manages active asset allocation strategies and Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) solutions using Blackrock and third-party managers across public and private markets. The team manages approximately $80 billion in client assets as of 31 December 2023 for Pension clients across the Americas. Our investment decisions harness the collective insights of our 2,000+ investors on the ground in virtually every established investable market. All portfolios managed through Aladdin, our comprehensive portfolio and risk management system.
 

Role Description, Responsibilities & Qualifications:

The team is looking for a motivated individual that will play a key role in our investment mandates by owning and supporting many phases of our investment process for existing clients, and to help win new clients. This person will also be encouraged to contribute to portfolio management, research and analysis, and find ways to improve efficiency and timeliness of deliverables. This is a great opportunity for a resourceful problem-solver to be part of a dynamic team and get exposure to multi-asset investing by working closely with Client CIOs, institutional account managers, and end clients.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and delivery of investment solutions to current and prospective OCIO clients, including the ability to develop/modify pension asset-liability, portfolio construction and manager blending models.
  • Partner with the firm’s sales and relationship teams to develop new business. Play a prominent role in RFPs and pitch preparation.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the broader themes, trends, and competitive landscape for U.S. corporate pension plans and the OCIO market in general.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of BlackRock and third-party investment strategies. Contribute to new product design. 
  • Engage with internal teams throughout BlackRock to create and implement scaled Aladdin-based technology solutions to address investment and reporting needs.
  • Own internal processes and identify ways to improve efficiency and timeliness of client and investment deliverables.
  • Lead and participate in broader MASS investment research initiatives.
  • Be a culture carrier and team member who can lead and develop junior talent.
     

Qualifications:

  • Degree or higher-level qualification and demonstrated record of academic achievement. CFA, FSA/ASA or equivalent qualifications preferred.
  • 5+ years of asset management experience across multiple asset classes and institutional investment strategies. Direct experience working with defined benefit pension plans, or a similarly technical client base, preferred.
  • Unfazed by complexity and energized by nuanced problem-solving, financial modeling and analysis.  
  • Superb communication skills in writing and speech. Capable of connecting with multiple audiences.
  • Excellent teammate with a high level of self-motivation and ownership. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage across an array of stakeholders.


 

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $147,500 - $209,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
