Purpose

The Stacks Maintenance Coordinator performs stacks maintenance operations (sorting, shelving, shifting books, and shelf-reading) for the University of Texas Libraries print collections in the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL), with occasional work in other library locations. This position also oversees the work of student employees performing stacks maintenance operations in PCL.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general stacks maintenance operations.
    • Sort books for reshelving, create ready-to-shelve (RTS) book trucks
    • Shelve books
    • Ensure books are in proper call number order
    • Collect books left on tables by patrons
    • Perform shifts to alleviate tight areas on shelves
    • Maintain shelving and pick-up statistics
  • Assist in planning and execution of large-scale shifts.
  • Pull materials selected for relocation to storage and make updates in Alma.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student workers in stacks maintenance processes.
  • Assist in making new acquisitions shelf ready.
  • Help patrons locate library materials.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or GED) and four years of library, inventory, logistics, or other relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student employees.
  • Ability to work independently and with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with staff, students, and a wide range of other library patrons.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word
  • Ability to spend extended periods standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, and routinely lifting or pushing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sort and file using Library of Congress classification
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing stacks maintenance operations in an academic library
  • Familiarity with data collection, processing, and analysis
  • Experience maintaining physical library collections
  • Supervisory experience

Salary Range

$46,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office and library conditions.
  • Lifting objects, bending, kneeling, walking, standing.
  • Lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.

Work Shift

Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm.
