About the role

At MainStreet, we’re problem solvers.
Our products aim to do one thing: save startup founders and small business owners time, money, and peace of mind. We started by demystifying complicated tax credits, saving over $100M – and countless hours of tax code research 🥱– for founders in nearly every industry.  Since our sort-of viral beginnings in 2019, we’ve raised a $60M Series A, expanded our product lines (with more in the works), and grew from 3 employees to our current team!
We owe our success to the strength of our team. Before joining MainStreet, we helped build companies like Intuit, PayPal, Google, Apple, Coinbase, Gusto, LinkedIn, Slack, and more. We’re fellow founders, engineers, accountants, designers, dog (and cat) lovers, adventurers, coders, and parents. We move fast. We think big. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. And we’d love for you to join us.
The opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of engineers, overseeing project development, ensuring technical excellence, and driving continuous improvement within the engineering department. You will play a critical role in achieving project goals, maintaining high-quality standards, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

What you’ll do

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster professional growth and development. Create a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes high team morale and productivity

  • Technical Excellence: Drive technical excellence within the engineering team by promoting best practices, staying updated with industry trends, and encouraging continuous learning. Foster a culture of innovation and creative problem-solving
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other departments, such as product management, design, and quality assurance, to ensure effective coordination and integration of engineering efforts. Facilitate clear communication and alignment across teams
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize engineering processes, methodologies, and tools. Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality. Regularly assess and review engineering practices to ensure they align with industry standards
  • Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations for team members, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations. Identify training and development needs, and create individual development plans to enhance team members' skills and competencies
  • Resource Management: Plan and manage resource allocation, including staffing, budgeting, and equipment requirements, to meet project and organizational goals. Identify skill gaps and recruit top engineering talent as needed
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders, including clients, executives, and other departments, to understand their needs, communicate project status, and manage expectations. Act as a key point of contact for engineering-related inquiries and escalations

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Proven experience (3+ years) as an Engineering Manager in a high-growth startup environment
