As a Mechanical Maintenance in our Sparta, TN Nylon 6, Nylon 6/6, and Polyester colored specialty resins plant, you will make an impact on the world with a fundamental focus on sustainability. As a Production Technician, you will be a part of a team that manufactures products for use in the automotive, consumer/industrial, and power distribution industries. The products produced at the Sparta, TN site can be found in everyday products like auto interior, mirror, window housings, power tool housings, furniture applications, electrical switches, and wall plates and more!
As you begin your apprenticeship, you will enroll in the Mechatronics Technology AAS program at Motlow State College. While attending classes, you will work and learn on-site at our Sparta, TN facility, which produces Nylon 6, Nylon 6/6, and Polyester colored specialty resins, guided by some of the industry’s top professionals. To help you focus on your education, BASF will cover the entire cost of your program, including textbooks!

Work hands-on in our Sparta, TN plant learning to:
- Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts.
- Maintain, rebuild, and repair a wide variety of production and processing machines and equipment.
- Develop mechanical skill sets, including welding, fabrication, and pipefitting.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments for repairs and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
- Utilize measurement devices, calipers, and micrometers to inspect machine parts.
- Gain general knowledge of electrical equipment such as controllers, PLCs, and electric meters.
- Support non-production maintenance and repair activities.
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) events.
- Proactively identify ways to improve plant uptime while performing preventive maintenance (PM).
- Make recommendations to enhance existing PM processes for greater effectiveness and update PM modifications, including equipment changes.
- Contact suppliers for troubleshooting and repair assistance.
- Update Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics, including tracking RCFA trends for specific equipment.
- File all completed PMs for ISO compliance and serve as an ISO/TS16949 maintenance representative.
- Contribute to and complete construction (capital type) projects as assigned.
- Utilize RCFA and RCM processes to improve equipment uptime.
- Complete preventative and predictive maintenance activities, including 12 RCFA/RCM reports per year.
- Minimize downtime of plant equipment through effective use of Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) maintenance skills.
- Troubleshoot and repair systems and components of production and site equipment.
- Rebuild and maintain a wide variety of production and site equipment.
