About the role
Amentum is seeking a Mission Operations Section Manager to support the Space Force Range Contract at (VSFB) Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA.
Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership and direction for the Western Range (WR) Mission Operations Section along with the planning and scheduling process for launch and aeronautical operations.
- Prepare and provide progress status reports and briefings as required or requested, to inform leadership of anticipated performance problems, issues, and improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all personnel are properly trained to execute their responsibilities and receive initial and recurring guidance, instructions, and direction needed to ensure safety and quality launch support.
- Responsible for enterprise standardization by maintaining close liaison between Space Force Range Contract (SFRC) counterparts and external customers.
- Ensure Mission Operations is staffed with qualified personnel needed to successfully plan and manage WR launch, landing, and aeronautical operations monitoring duty hours to meet mission and safety requirements.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to personnel to ensure SFRC standards are met for technical quality, customer service, or timeliness as well as recognizing personnel.
- Ensure work products are reviewed prior to release to ensure a quality product and consistency with operating instructions, policies, procedures, and organizational responsibilities.
- Monitor workflow to ensure delivery of products on time in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Ensure the actions, products, and recommendations of Mission Operations are well coordinated with all affected or responsible organizations before release and represent the best possible SFRC product or service.
- Support WR launch and aeronautical operations in qualified Mission Operations positions, as needed.
- Innovate process improvements to ensure contract compliance and fulfillment while devising and implementing process improvement methods derived from internal and external integrated process team actions.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Possess leadership, management, and supervisory skills that demonstrate, or indicate a high potential for successful direction of employees represented under a collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
- Team builder with orientation towards group dynamics to create synergy with assigned personnel constantly evolving task lists, and short mission requirement timelines while balancing stringent contract requirement.
- Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with the customers, superiors, peers, and subordinates.
- Able to organize and lead effective meetings and prepare clear oral and written direction, correspondence, and reports.
- Adept at public speaking and customer interaction with audiences ranging from SFRC and Government senior leadership through subordinate workforce.
- Able to interpret requirements and convert into action plans.
- Able to make educated decisions under pressure and act decisively in emergency situations.
- Able to self-motivate with minimum direct supervision.
- Able to project a professional image when working with the customer.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, in a technical, engineering, or management discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 8 years of related work experience to include 4 years of supervisory/management experience
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge and understanding of the WR operational subsystems and their interrelationships as they are applied to planning and execution of launch, landing, and/or aeronautical operations preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Universal Documentation System (UDS) and how Range and Range Customer requirements are collected and translated into mission plans, documents, and schedules preferred.
- Familiarity with Range Automated Tasking System (RATS) preferred.
- Experience working with a Collective Bargaining Agreement and represented personnel preferred.
- Flexibility to work non-duty hours, or on weekends, to support specific project or mission requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
The annual starting salary for this position is between $115,000 - $125,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
