PAY RATE: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour (up to 1500 hours per year).

The employee is entrusted with confidential law enforcement, personnel, and criminal justice information and must exercise a high degree of professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, and attention to detail while supporting Police Department operations.
This is a seasonal position intended to provide temporary administrative and operational support to the Police Department during periods of increased operational workload. The duration and scheduling of employment shall be determined based upon departmental needs and funding availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for police officer and civilian applicants, including applicant interviews, reference checks, employment verification, criminal history reviews, social media reviews, and preparation of comprehensive background investigation reports.
- Coordinates and maintains the Police Department's employee training records and tracks compliance with applicable MCOLES requirements, continuing professional education (CPE), firearms qualifications, certifications, departmental requirements, state mandates, and mandatory training deadlines.
- Assists with scheduling department training, maintaining attendance records, and preparing reports regarding training compliance.
- Exercises law enforcement authority consistent with appointment as a sworn HCMA police officer and in accordance with applicable law, Department policy, and direction of the Chief of Police.
- May assist with police operations, investigations, special events, emergency incidents, or other law enforcement assignments as directed.
- Maintains all training, licensing, qualification, and certification requirements necessary to retain status as a sworn police officer.
- Performs video and audio redaction of police body-worn camera recordings, in-car video, photographs, and other digital evidence in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), criminal justice requirements, and department policy.
- Assists with processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests involving digital evidence.
- Maintains confidential personnel files, background investigation files, and other administrative records in accordance with applicable retention schedules.
- Maintains compliance with applicable FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy requirements, Michigan CJIS and LEIN requirements, and departmental policies governing access, handling, storage, and dissemination of confidential law enforcement information.
- Assists with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports for the Chief of Police.
- Maintains departmental databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems related to personnel, training, equipment, and administrative functions.
- Assists with ordering office supplies, uniforms, equipment, and other administrative purchases as assigned.
- Coordinates administrative paperwork associated with hiring, onboarding, promotions, and employee separations.
- Assists with policy updates, document preparation, and records management.
- Responds to inquiries from department personnel and the public while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Assists with special projects assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Performs general clerical duties including filing, scanning, data entry, document preparation, and correspondence.
- Assists with department events, training exercises, and community outreach activities.
- Assists with inventory of department equipment and administrative supplies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
