Job Description

The Employee Experience (EmEx) team connects Shopify employees (known as Shopifolk) to our mission, to their work, and to each other by providing a wide variety of programs, projects, and services. These include, but are not limited to: Bursting (gathering IRL for multi-day touchpoints), Ports (physical spaces to burst in), the Digital Experience including home setups, Physical Security, Employee Travel, Health and Safety, and Events.  

In this role, you will be accountable for delivering on a wide range of projects & programs that span the Employee Experience ecosystem. This is a very fast-moving role requiring a high degree of agility, autonomy, grace under pressure, and an ability to adapt and pivot as needed. Traditional projects are not our cup of tea and we don’t work from any single playbook; you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to how we think and how we approach project management at Shopify. As a Project Manager on this team, you will not only be managing projects and programs directly, but also developing new frameworks, tools, and resources to help support Employee Experience at scale.

You’re someone who likes seeing both the forest and the trees, alongside creating something new from scratch. You’ll be successful in this role if you can think strategically, learn how to initiate new ideas within this hyper-speed environment, have a strong project management background, and communication superpowers that enable you to build high-trust relationships.  

Role & Responsibilities

• Successfully manage and deliver high-impact projects for Employee Experience. 
  • Manage the project autonomously and can navigate difficult situations independently.
  • Recognize, evaluate and plan the right course of action in the face of risk.
  • Make decisions with imperfect information in order to ensure the project can progress. 
• Contribute and support the overall strategy behind the program or project you are managing.
• Ensure the technical resources on your project understand the overall project goal(s) and what they are individually responsible for. 
• Ensure alignment, consistency, and healthy team practices across projects 
  • Create space where the team feels comfortable sharing ideas and feedback. You understand the art of negotiation and can navigate with precision and high-care.
• Navigate internal stakeholder relationships; aligning teams across Employee Experience and the enterprise, from Individual contributors to Executives.
• Advise on high-level project prioritization across the department
• Design new and/or enhance existing frameworks, processes, methodologies and tools that support Employee Experience at scale; we are building this rocketship mid-flight! 
• Be a resource for team members, help guide through challenges and roadblocks on their projects
• Promote and uphold high project management standards throughout the project lifecycle.
• Be a strategic partner to our leadership team
