Job Description

AECOM Water is currently looking for an experienced Program Manager to join our team in the Bay Area, leading some of the most complex programs globally. The ideal candidate for this position should have at least 10 years of professional experience, with 5 years in a senior program management role. They should have a proven track record of successfully completing medium to large size programs and be known among clients for their expertise. It is important for the candidate to have a strong external network of industry contacts and peers. They should also possess a deep understanding of applicable technical areas and program management competencies, which they can leverage to position or deliver programs effectively. The candidate should have experience managing others and be able to mentor and develop their team members. Building strong relationships and managing all client stakeholders, both internal and external, is crucial. The candidate should demonstrate exemplary leadership attributes and be able to build consensus in challenging situations. They should have the ability to set long-term goals and strategies, as well as effectively manage internal and external interfaces and interdependencies across the program. Creating diverse and inclusive teams that foster trust, psychological safety, autonomy, accountability, and alignment is highly valued. While a degree in a relevant discipline such as architecture, engineering, or project management is preferred, applications with relevant diplomas and substantial professional experience will also be considered. Possessing certifications such as PMI-PgMP, APM-RPP, or CMAA-CCM is preferred but not essential. Certain roles may require a Professional Engineering License (for roles in the USA), Chartered status, or equivalent qualifications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage programs that are medium to large in size and complexity.

  • Provides the organization with technical leadership and strategic direction for program delivery globally.

  • Champion for ethical and safe working practices.

  • Drives innovation in program management approaches and methodology to achieve marketplace differentiation.

  • Works with Global Business Lines, Regional leadership and Market Sector Leaders to identify new business opportunities and develop solutions to address them.

  • Identifies areas of high risk and pro-actively takes actions to positively impact program outcomes.

  • Contributes to the global learning and people development strategy for program management, including identification of talent gaps and resourcing plans.

  • Assess long-term and disruptive trends in their area of expertise. Proposes skill development approaches and workforce planning to deliver capabilities for the future.

  • Actively supports the attraction and retention of talent across area of expertise.

  • Accountable for overall financial success and delivery of AECOM Program Management agreement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 20 years of professional experience with 5 years in a senior role within program management.

  • Developing an external network of industry contacts and peers.  Is known among clients for successfully completing  programs with $100K to $2MM in budgetary scope

  • Able to demonstrate expertise in applicable technical areas or an aspect of program management valued by clients and peers to position or deliver programs.

  • Has familiarity with the program management competencies within programs and applies these to be successful.  H
