CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
TITLE: CLINICAL COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Director, Genetic Counseling Program
SALARY RANGE: $92,000 - $110,000
DLSE STATUS: Exempt
Reporting to the Director of the Genetic Counseling Program (GCP), the Clinical Coordinator for the Master of Genetic Counseling program works closely with GCP leadership, students and clinical institutions to support and manage clinical rotations. This position interfaces directly with the Director and the Assistant Director or designees of the GCP to facilitate the clinical training of GCP students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the identification, recruitment, and touring of new fieldwork/practicum rotations under the direction of the GCP Director or designee.
- Maintains Exxat database of student records and fieldwork placements documentation (including student vaccination records, affiliation agreements, student and placement evaluations, etc.)
- Receives and reviews student documents for verification and accuracy to ready them for fieldwork placements.
- Schedules and notifies students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student clinical group each semester.
- Aids the Director and Assistant Director in obtaining Affiliation Agreements for existing or new fieldwork placements.
- Assists with identifying potential student learning experiences for fieldwork training.
- Attends meetings at fieldwork placement sites for site visits, etc., in collaboration with the GCP Director and/or GCP Assistant Director.
- Maintains currency in all existing Affiliation Agreements and initiates timely re-submission to maintain fieldwork placement availability continuity.
- In conjunction with the Assistant Director, negotiates timing and scheduling of fieldwork placements for all GCP students
- Develops the fieldwork rotation schedules in collaboration with the GCP Director, Assistant Director or designee.
- Aids in evaluation of clinical sites with GCP Director and/or Assistant Director
- In collaboration with the Program Coordinator, is first point of contact for any inquiries into the program
- Develops and runs reports for the GCP
- Assists the Program Coordinator with on-boarding GCP course instructors, speakers or faculty, especially in regard to sourcing textbooks/journals/articles required for each course.
- Serves as a resource and support person for GCP course instructors and GCP Adjunct Faculty.
- Attends selected professional meetings and recruitment job fairs as
- In conjunction with Academic Services, develops a strategy for sourcing students for the GCP from under-resourced communities
- Is actively involved in developing, under the guidance of Academic Services, a pipeline of STEM students with an interest in Genetics
- Participates in the CDU Pillars of providing community service by staffing genetic clinics at designated institutions
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties for the GCP as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling; ABGC certification preferred.
- New graduates welcome.
EXPERIENCE:
- Recent experience with genetic counseling clinical rotations required.
- At least two years of experience working within the genetic field
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and show proof of insurance.
- Two years of administrative clerical experience
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
- Recent experience with genetic counseling fieldwork rotations
- Knowledge of teaching
