About the role

Description

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members’ and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. Supervision with open ninja gyms and rentals in a safe, enjoyable, culturally aware, and positive environment that promotes youth development, social responsibility, and healthy living in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures with advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y’s commitment to DEI and the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  2. Lead energizing, fun, culturally aware, safe, open ninjas, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.? 
  3. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.? 
  4. Builds effective, culturally aware, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA using a DEI lens.
  5. Provide direct supervision to ninja participants in accordance with the YMCA Best practices, and policies and procedures.? 
  6. Builds effective, culturally aware, authentic relationships with students. Identifies potential volunteers/employees.? Advocates for diverse participants.?
  7. Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.?
  8. Conveys program information, surveys, and annual campaign to participants.? 
  9. Follows all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.? 
  10. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct.? 
  11. Project a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image on the job always.? 

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Meets 80% to 100% of the following qualifications: 

  1. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect. 
  2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  3. Must have a fundamental knowledge of Ninja Obstacle Courses or similar 
  4. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with class participants, superiors, and co-workers. 
  5. Must be able to implement oral and written instructions. 
  6. Exercises mature judgment and sound decision making. 
  7. Must have 1-2 years of previous experience working with children ages 1-12. 
  8. Must have 1-2 years’ experience with ninja obstacle courses or similar. 

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A certificate in DEI or extensive training and work experience. 
  2. Must have 5+ years of Ninja, gymnastics or related coaching or teaching experience. 
  3. Must have knowledge of proper use of ninja/gymnastics equipment. 
  4. Holds a Ninja Coaching Certificate.
