Summary

Colonial Behavioral Health provides opportunities for recovery to individuals and their family members in the areas of mental illness, substance use disorder, and developmental disabilities. Colonial Behavioral Health serves the citizens of James City County, City of Poquoson, City of Williamsburg, and York County.

We are currently recruiting for a Clinician I- Forensic Discharge Planner within our Emergency Services program. This position works with individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder providing individuals within the community  with access to needed services and supports necessary to meeting basic needs.

Examples of duties

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides Discharge Planning- includes state, local, forensic, civil, NGRI, and Project.
  • Provides a wrap-around service intended to support individuals in the community who are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization and readmission.
  • Provides NGRI Coordination- includes supervision of the acquitted, monitoring and linkage to community resources, and discharge planning of all NGRI within the community.
  • Provides court coverage, recert screenings, diversion assessments and outpatient restoration (as needed) and mandatory outpatient treatment. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The primary schedule for this position is standard business hours, Monday through Friday. Please note that evening hours may be required based on program needs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities in the assessment,   evaluation and diagnosis of persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities  and substance use disorders, including risk determination -  danger to self or others, inability to care for self due to mental illness, imminent risk.    
  • Ability to facilitate clinically appropriate response to persons in acute behavioral health crisis situations – assessment, hospitalization, triage and referral, or other dispositions. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Discharge Protocols and the procedures for Continuity of Care between the CSB’s and State and private psychiatric facilitate, associated CBH policies and procedures, and Emergency Services procedures. 
  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder required.  
  • Valid driver’s license is required.  
  • Bachelor's Degree in a human services field required.
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) required
