We are seeking a Cable Technician to support our customer’s IT operations in Norfolk, VA. The effort provides IT services, audio/video support, application development, network engineering, operations, information assurance, and knowledge management support. This position will be on-site and will require an active Secret Clearance. 

 

Cable Technician Primary Duties:

• Installation and termination of Voice Cabling.
• Standard copper horizontal cable installations to include CAT6 4 pair cabling.
• Data Cabling. Material acquisition, shipment, staging, installation, and test of copper and Single Mode (SM) or Multimode (MM) fiber cabling in accordance with industry standards.
• Install and test all data cabling to include active equipment cabling to the buildings’ point of demarcation as specified in the project documentation.
• Installation and maintenance of cable tray cable support devices and systems, racks and cabinets for new hardware.
• Identify power requirements required to support new installations.
• Meet grounding and bonding requirements specific to the assigned task
• Inside Plant (ISP) riser and horizontal pathways General Cabling. Material acquisition, shipment, staging and installation of general cables. These cables will be pulled to and from specified locations only. They will be machine labeled and left for termination by others.

Qualifications

Cable Technician Education and Qualifications:

• High School graduate or equivalent vocational program focused on information technology.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in the installation, termination and maintenance of cabling in a large enterprise environment.

Essential Requirements:

• US Citizenship.
• Active Secret Clearance.
• Current certification in any of the industry recognized commercial or military cabling and infrastructure certification programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand, and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to workstation. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and the public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
