Software Engineer

The Software Engineer - Velogica is responsible for supporting the Velogica® application development process and for supporting Velogica® integration and operations efforts by designing, developing, and executing technical solutions which fulfil business requirements provide by the Product Owners. They are also expected to review business requirements and design, develop, and execute test plans which verify that those requirements and specifications are completely and accurately fulfilled.
The Velogica® application development teams provide software development, testing and production support services to the Velogica® business platform. The Velogica® platform is a high-availability, retail-servicing platform and the individual selected for this role will have proven experience successfully managing and delivering technical solutions and services in this fast-paced, challenging environment.
- Work closely with Product Owners, quality analysts, and other developers to review and refine business requirements, software requirements, and detailed designs.
- Work closely with the Product Owner to understand priorities and dependencies.
- Contribute meaningfully to the development efforts of the team.
- Create and maintain project, system, and testing documentation as needed.
- Ensure successful fulfilment of acceptance criteria, including participating in reviews of technical designs and validation of completion.
- Participate in sprint planning and daily scrum meetings to provide clear status of progress and identification of impediments.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes which encourage and enforce technical standards, best practices, and effective use of tools and methodologies for a high-availability, high-volume, retail-servicing platform.
- Work with New Business Development, Product Owners, and Implementation teams to assist with client implementations, providing high level guidance to the client’s technical teams and detailed technical guidance where necessary.
- Participate in the on-call, rotating production support process, including maintenance of support processes and best practices.
- Plan, execute and evaluate tests to ensure the conformance of the Velogica® system behaviour to business requirements and technical specifications, both for system enhancements and existing functionality.
- Maintain and improve test coverage of Velogica®, including expanding the regression test coverage provided by automated tests.
- Contribute to a consistent and stable automated regression.
- Participate in controls compliance and auditing for the Velogica® application development team.
- Adhere to SCOR Information Security policies and best practices, including security awareness training and other information protection initiatives.
- Act as a servant leader, working with other team members to create an environment where all team members can achieve autonomy, mastery, and purpose in delivering quality software predictably and efficiently through use of an Agile development methodology.
- Foster and participate in a culture of continuous improvement.

- A bachelor’s degree in information services management, computer science, applied mathematics or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years working on or with application development teams using Agile methodologies to produce quality software predictably and efficiently.
- Capable of providing leadership and guidance to software development teams.
- Expertise with application and technical systems architecture to support high-availability, high-volume, retail-servicing processing systems.
- Experience with various technologies including Java, J2SE, Java EE, Python, SQL, EJB, JMS, JPA2, JAX-RS, SOAP, REST, Hibernate, JDBC, Spring, Spring Boot, log4j, JUnit, Angular, XML, JSON, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, JBoss, Git, Jira, Jenkins, Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon Aurora, AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, AWS CloudWatch, other services of the AWS family.
- Demonstrated experience conducting functional, integration, performance, and regression testing.
- Demonstrated experience understanding data models and designing, developing, and executing SQL scripts against complex data models.
- Demonstrated experience testing back-end (non-GUI) systems (preferably systems built with a service-oriented architecture).
