About the Role
Communications Materials is recruiting an Associate or Senior Editor to handle submissions related to materials chemistry and energy materials. The candidate will be a key member of the editorial team, responsible for publishing quality research in the chemical sciences. This role involves managing the editorial process, making editorial decisions, engaging with the scientific community to enhance the journal's impact, and working alongside Editorial Board Members. The position offers a hybrid working model and is suited for individuals passionate about science communication and editorial work.

The responsibilities include:

  • Handling original research papers and overseeing the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review.
  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
  • Engaging with an external Editorial Board and assisting with recruitment and training of new members.
  • Liaising with editors at other journals and experts in the scientific community.
  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
  • Commissioning content such as Reviews, Perspectives, and Comment articles.
  • Writing content including Research Highlights and Editorials.
  • Launching Collections in topics of strategic interest to the journal.
  • Contributing to journal strategy and editorial policies.

To be considered for the position, you will have:

  • Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in any topic related to materials chemistry or materials for energy.
  • A passion for science and a desire to learn more about various scientific fields.
  • Ability to assess the novelty and implications of research from different disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Desire to meet scientists worldwide and help them understand the publication process.
  • Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines.
