Introduction to role
Reporting directly to the Medical Head of Tozorakimab, the GMAL is a pivotal strategic business role. This position allows you to pair your unique medical expertise with insights from markets, healthcare professionals, patients, and health systems to develop and implement world-class medical strategies for AstraZeneca medicines and market-shaping teams globally. As a key member of the Global Medical Team (GMT), the GMAL acts as a strategic partner and leader across the medical enterprise, R&D, and commercial functions. You will serve as a conduit between the Global Product Team (GPT) and medical teams in the Regions (US, EU-Canada & International) and major markets, ensuring the needs of marketing company affiliates, healthcare professionals, and patients are recognized in ambitious global product and disease area strategies. Your role will equip medical teams worldwide to deliver outstanding product launches, transform health systems, conduct practice-defining studies and real-world evidence, and accelerate the delivery of AstraZeneca clinical trials.
Accountabilities
- Launch & Performance: Deliver prerequisites for an outstanding product launch – strategy, scientific narrative, Key Performance Indicators (critical metrics) – with an ability to critically assess performance against launch objectives and proactively take remedial action.
- Scientific Leadership: Create & communicate world-class medical content and compelling science narratives for products/market-shaping initiatives.
- Innovator: Create new opportunities to drive market growth, identifying and scaling standard methodologies across countries.
- Evidence: Shape/design evidence needs and clinical studies to differentiate or expand market access for AstraZeneca medicines and support healthcare change initiatives.
- External Scientific Engagement: Drive an ambitious external engagement agenda – credible and knowledgeable with an ability to partner with/mobilize global leaders with vision, societies, health organizations, and health system decision-makers.
- Business Partner: Collaborate with other medical functions (e.g., Evidence Generation, Medical Information, Publications) as well as cross-functionally (e.g., Commercial, Pricing and Market Access, R&D) to drive the delivery of strategically important medical resources as well as scientifically accurate & compliant commercial materials.
Essential Skills/Experience
- BSc or master’s with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design etc.)
- Demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowess pre- and post-product launch, including the ability to define evidence needs, create compelling scientific narratives & strategy, influence & mobilize others.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Doctoral level degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD or equivalent experience
- Expertise in the relevant or related TA
- Experience of delivering results in a complex environment
- Experience launching new products or indications.
- Strong working relationships with global clinical leaders with a point of view, professional societies, and other healthcare industries/organizations
- Proven ability to build internal and external networks and to collaborate.
- Evidence generation experience—working on clinical trials or real-world evidence programs.
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $185,412.80 - 278,119.20. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
