Mechanical Engineer

Textile waste is a growing global challenge. Syre’s mission is to decarbonize and dewaste textiles, starting with the world's biggest fiber, polyester. By implementing true textile-to-textile recycling at hyperscale, we want to drive the transition from a linear to a circular value chain by putting textile waste to use, over and over again.

Syre is now looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing R&D & Process Development team in Mebane, NC. You’ll be a vital part of the team to make sure that we’re operating our Pilot Plant, our Blueprint Plant and our future giga scale plants in the best possible way.

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Create 3D models and drawings to support design and visualization
• Conduct material take-offs, owning the entire process from identification to negotiation
• Collaborate with vendors on quotes and purchases in an effective way
• Work closely with contractors and construction personnel and give direction
• Collaborate with the rest of the R&D team to ensure traction

We would prefer if you

• Have 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience
• Have a relevant engineering degree
• Have good understanding of safety and quality in an industrial environment
• Have strong knowledge in CAD
• Have excellent troubleshooting skills
• Have the flexibility to regularly visit our blueprint plant (about 1hr drive south of Raleigh)
• Are fluent in English both orally and in writing (professional English required)

You will be reporting to the Chief Technology Officer and should be located in (or willing to relocate to) Mebane, NC.
