Position Description 


Vantage is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to be part of our Design Engineering team, positioned at the forefront of an exciting growth market. In this role, you will handle high-level system design, specification development, contractor management, and the transition from design, through construction, and installation, to operations. Collaboration with various teams is expected as you navigate complex engineering challenges, ensuring project standards are met and enhanced. 

A comprehensive understanding of all facets of electrical engineering, including protection systems, data center distribution topologies, backup power systems, resilient design, and redundancy is essential. 



Essential Job Functions 

  • Investigate new technologies, solutions, and develop business cases for implementation. 

  • Lead all aspects of electrical design and engineering including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents 

  • Manage external electrical engineer contractors 

  • Drive project level tasks and milestones assigned by the project management team 

  • Review project plans and specifications 

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for technical reviews including submittals, RFIs, and engineering studies/analysis 

  • Interface and manage electrical design contractors on a project basis 

  • Provide weekly reports to Vantage leadership on design progress, challenges, risks, and priorities 

  • Oversee review process of engineering studies of all types 

  • Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers' career development 

  • Conduct field investigations and coordination meetings at job sites 


Duties 

  • Develop and review project specifications, schematic drawings, design documents, submittals, and commissioning scripts 

  • Review sequence of operations for all electrical systems 

  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions 

  • Attend and review documentation for the electrical part of the commissioning efforts of each project 

  • Support Sales during tours, RFP response, both standard and bespoke solutions, and customer meetings 

  • Coach and help develop the career path for junior electrical engineers 

  • Attend design meetings and ensure engineering standards and specifications are met in construction 

  • Conduct value engineering analysis, and provide system recommendations based on ROI and IRR analysis  

  • Review and provide feedback on project plans and participate in gating approvals 

  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams for optimised and streamlined product delivery 

  • Attend on-site job walks and meetings for hands-on project engagement 

  • Assist Site Operations in troubleshooting and tuning existing systems 

  • Execute additional tasks as directed by management 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college 

  • Possess 10 years of experience in electrical power design and construction required 

  • Accredited engineering credentials preferred (Chartered Engineer in EU / Professional Engineer in NA) 

  • Data Center design and/or construction experience is required. Minimum 5 years  

  • Experience with European construction markets required 

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, ETAP modeling software, and construction management platforms 

  • Understanding of Revit, BIM and Navisworks environments 

  • Working knowledge of critical power infrastructure within a data center project from external power supply, to end circuit supply to the racks.  

  • Working knowledge of all building and fire codes ordinances, including IEC standards
