About the role

The Social Emotional Early Childhood Educator serves as a member of the Family Development Team and will deliver programming through our Herkimer County System of Care grant. The educator will deliver established evidence-based social emotional curriculum to Herkimer County pre-k staff, elementary classroom staff, community partners, children and families through direct teaching. The educator will assist in the implementation of training tools for classrooms. The educator will work community events when needed to promote Extension programs as well as Herkimer County System of Care services. The educator will provide information to participants regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed. This individual will appreciate and promote diversity in all interactions with program participants, staff, and the public.

    

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates degree and 2 years transferable program/functional experience.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, teach, and evaluate educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with staff.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to transport supplies and materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Specify preferred specialized education, field and/or certifications.

  • Background in early childhood, trauma-informed practices, and familiarity with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).
  • Familiarity in child development, health and wellness, and early childhood education.
  • Demonstrated ability to train individuals as well as groups.

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 70%

  • Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to provide education on evidence based social emotional curriculum.
  • Provide resources to community-based organizations, school districts, parents, staff and other groups as they are identified.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource in early childhood related topics to staff, parents and providers, community organizations, and the general public.
  • Interact effectively with program participants to provide educational resources that meet their specific needs.
  • Meet or exceed targeted delivery goals assigned by the supervisor as indicated by the funding source.
  • Leverage approved program resources and materials to support program activities effectively.
  • Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create plans to deliver educational programs
  • Inform community members and families of other Extension programs, community agencies, and services.
  • Represent CCE to the public, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University in a professional manner as part of program delivery.

Program Evaluation – 5%

  • Interact with program participants and clientele to collect evaluation data for improving programs and services.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Assist supervisor and SOC partners in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
  • Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5%

  • Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.
  • Assist in the planning of Family Development programs and events.
  • Assist supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with other agencies and organizations that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.

Management – 5%

  • Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials).
  • Provide programmatic guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.
