Description
AdaptHealth’s Indirect Tax Team plays a critical role in the company’s financial operations, focusing on both compliance and operational aspects of sales and use tax. AdaptHealth is committed to transforming its end-to-end tax calculation system and processes, embarking on a multi-year journey to centralize and modernize tax calculations and compliance reporting. The team is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of U.S. transaction taxes on customer sales and procurement. With an annual responsibility of reporting and remitting transactional taxes across thousands of jurisdictions, the Indirect Tax Team also provides valuable insights to key tax policy stakeholders. This role reports to the VP, Corporate Tax and works with a high level of independence, but with a great degree of collegiality, serving as a technical tax practitioner for AdaptHealth businesses primarily with respect to sales and use and gross receipts taxes. By expertly navigating the complex world of indirect taxes, the team supports AdaptHealth’s growth, profitability, and corporate responsibility, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, or related area
- 3-8 years of experience in Indirect Tax, preferably with exposure to retail, big 4, or mid-tier firms
- Strong knowledge of sales and use tax, excise tax, transaction tax, gross receipts tax, and tax technical concepts
- Experience working with multiple jurisdictions and navigating complex tax regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Leading cross-functional projects and supervisory experience
- Must be able to prioritize tasks to meet statutory and internal deadlines
- Must demonstrate an ability to directly communicate clearly and effectively and work collaboratively with other team members
- Support process improvement and instituting quality control metrics
- Superb attention to detail, strong planning and organization skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including advanced use of Excel and SharePoint
Responsibilities
- Assist Corporate Tax with all facets of indirect tax primarily focused on sales and use tax and liaising with Business Licensing
- Maintain consistent contact with all members of our Corporate Tax Team and internal business partners to facilitate collaboration and promote transparency
- Manage and oversee the preparation and review of sales and use tax returns, excise tax returns, transaction tax filings, and gross receipt tax filing for multiple jurisdictions
- Research and analyze complex tax issues, provide guidance on tax implications of business transactions, and utilize tax data to optimize tax strategies
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities and external advisors
- Develop and maintain working relationships outside the finance organization
- Develop a working knowledge of various revenue databases
- Manage tax audits and inquires, negotiate with tax authorities, and resolve tax disputes
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, monitor changes in tax legislation, and communicate implications to the organization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline and improve indirect tax processes and procedures
- Manage indirect tax GL accounts and monthly close procedures (i.e., journal entry preparation and account reconciliations and discussion thereof)
- Manage vendor tax exemption process
- Respond to questions and issues from business units and functional groups including Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Finance Operations
- Obtain, assess, and reconcile data and communicate data issues with the field and/or IT
- Assist with mergers onboarding and systems implementation and testing
- Completes compliance trainings and other educational programs as required
