Section/Division/Duty Station: Generation Unlimited/ Programme Group - NYHQ
Duration: August 2025 to June 2026
Home/ Office Based: NYHQ/ Remote
BACKGROUND
Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
Under the direct supervision of the Innovation Manager (Generation Unlimited), with overall guidance from the Deputy Director, Partnerships, Resource Mobilization & Innovation and in collaboration with the broader partnerships team, the consultant will lead the reactivation of the GenU Leaders Group, support the design and launch of a Global GenU Alumni Network, and develop a strategy to ensure youth are central to all components of GenU’s Global Solution Yoma.
Generation Unlimited
GenU is a global multi-sector Public Private Youth Partnership (PPYP) launched by the UN Secretary-General to meet the urgent need for expanded skilling, training, employment, and empowerment opportunities for young people aged 10–24. As a PPYP GenU engages with actors from across all sectors who are interested in the GenU agenda. A core driver of support for GenU has been its Leaders network. These are the most visible drivers of the partnership, using their influence to open opportunities, advocate for Generation Unlimited and mobilize resources. Given the development of a new GenU strategy it is an opportune time to reflect on the impact of the Leaders to date and develop a plan for how to engage these (and other) leaders moving forward. While GenU’s priorities have remained consistent, the Champions and Leaders Groups have not been fully engaged to their potential.
Additionally, as GenU has grown and evolved over time there are a number of stakeholders that were previously involved with GenU that have moved on for various reasons that GenU would like to reactivate for its cause. With the evolving youth development landscape, there is a valuable opportunity to reactivate and strengthen these stakeholders. As part of this effort, the consultant will support in developing a robust alumni program that engages former board members, champions, donors, other high-level supporters, and young people. Revitalizing their involvement will also help build a sustainable global alumni network and leverage youth insights and digital engagement to further advance GenU’s strategic initiatives.
As GenU grows, there is a renewed need to re-engage these groups, activate an alumni network, and review/refine how youth are central to all components of the GenU Global Solution, Yoma. The Yoma Global Solution is a digital platform that connects public, private and youth actors altogether for the betterment of young people. Yoma was conceptualized by young people, for young people, and given Yoma is approaching its 5th anniversary there is a need to ensure it has remained aligned with the voices of young people. Their active involvement brings fresh perspectives to program planning and partnerships, helping to build a more inclusive and empowering future for all youth
