About the role

POSITION SUMMARY:

Strives to return a satisfactory profit on dealer capital invested in parts inventory.  Accomplishes objectives through the use of proper purchasing procedures, inventory control, staff utilization, security, pricing, merchandising, displaying and advertising.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
  • Hires, trains, motivates, counsels and monitors the performance of all parts department staff.  
  • Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the parts department.
  • Establishes pricing parameters in each customer category that generate sufficient gross profit to produce a satisfactory profit while maintaining customer loyalty.
  • An established individual part inventory levels and balances them for maximum turnover.
  • Ensures that all parts are properly tagged so that the dealership recovers full credit from the factory.
  • Analyzes sales, expenses and inventory monthly to maintain profit goals.
  • Develops and administers an aggressive wholesale parts program to produce profit.
  • Works with service manager to ensure a timely turnaround of parts needed for internal jobs.
  • Directs shipping and receiving efforts to ensure timely processing.
  • Directs outside parts and counter sales efforts, including a telemarketing program to keep in contact with customers.
  • Assists in the collection of past due accounts.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned by Service Director.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Some college is preferred.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel and other computer applications.  Must be well organized, able to establish priorities and handle a variety of projects and functions simultaneously with minimum supervision.  Should have the ability to compose letters and initiate correspondence independently.  Excellent typing and telephone skills.  Must possess strong interpersonal and excellent verbal communication skills.  5 plus years of parts management in a dealership environment is preferred.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires occasional walking and standing with light (1-10lbs.) carrying, lifting, pushing or pulling.  The position is a mostly sedentary and requires the employee to have close visual acuity to perform job requirements.  The position requires frequent talking, hearing and repetitive motion with the hands, wrists and/or fingers.   This position is located within an office environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
