Outpatient Senior Nutritionist-FS Clinical Nutrition - MSH-Full Time-Days-9-5pm-No Weekends
Under the direction of Department Leadership, provides quality nutrition care for Pediatric Endocrine and Pediatric Weight Management patients by working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team within their designated practice area. The Senior Nutritionist supports departmental initiatives and education programs. Developing advanced practice in clinical focus area, recommending the appropriate nutrition therapy as it pertains to the patients’ nutritional needs. Adheres to all applicable regulatory agency guidelines, and to department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives and policies and procedures.
- Evaluates the nutritional status of the patients by reviewing pertinent information obtained from the electronic medical record and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Applies knowledge of nutrition screening and assessment to provide medical nutrition therapy by developing and implementing individualized nutrition care plans for general and practice specific patient populations.
- Advances practice in clinical focus area through education and skill development.
- Provides individualized counseling to patients and caregivers, including management of food-drug interactions, therapeutic diets, and supplements.
- Conducts nutrition-focused physical exams, as indicated, to determine risk and/or degree of malnutrition.
- Documents encounters in the electronic health record per Clinical Nutrition policy
- Completes necessary paperwork to support insurance billing/reimbursement process.
- Demonstrates proactive and effective communication with practice leadership and the multidisciplinary team regarding the patients’ nutrition plan of care. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and care plan meetings as needed.
- Completes and maintains administrative records, including productivity, annual competencies, and other documentation of direct and non-direct patient care functions, with timely submission to direct supervisor.
- Supports practice and department leadership with organizing projects and activities, including staff in-services, lectures, and community-focused programs. Participates in external speaking events to promote service and education.
- Participates in quality assurance monitoring and reporting activities.
- Assists with the development and updating of population specific nutrition education materials.
- May precept dietetic interns, instructing them on the competencies required to complete their assigned rotation. Completes student evaluations.
- Maintains positive and professional attitude, effectively communicating with patients, visitors, colleagues, hospital staff, and supervisors.
- Accepts and incorporates feedback for clinical development.
- Supports department/program goals. Adheres to department/hospital policies and procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution, with completion of ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics)-accredited dietetic internship.
- 2+ years of clinical experience Registered dietitian (RD) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) from the NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions required or process initiated upon hire. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) preferred.
