Job Summary
The Paleontology Research Assistant will organize, catalogue and compare microfossils from the Sheriden Cave collection housed at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Go through the collection and separate out all microfossils.
· Create a new subset of the database to track microfossil material.
· Determine what has been identified and what still needs to be identified.
· Rehouse specimens as needed.
· Identify mammal fossils.
· Regularly report findings and liaise with other team members.
· Participate in the Museum’s professional development and training programs related to the project.
· Create science communication content to disseminate findings and engage with community partners in the future.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with some independent research experience, preferably using excel databases as well as handling and/or identifying mammal bones.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
Working Conditions
This position will conduct indoor research activities that may occasionally require physical effort. This position may require sitting, walking, standing, and reaching including stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this role with or without reasonable accommodation.
