Civil Engineering Technician

Summary:

As a full-time Civil Engineering Technician with the City of Novi, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Public Works-Engineering Division's activities. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the review and permitting processes, as well as inspecting work conducted by private entities within the public right-of-way and easements. You will also oversee contracts and tackle various municipal engineering tasks, ensuring that projects meet the highest standards of safety and integrity.

Responsibilities include:

• Performs field inspections for all right-of-way permits or construction projects as assigned by Engineering staff.
• Effectively executes contractual oversight of all assigned service contracts.
• Examines inquiries and complaints of the public and other City departments.
• Performs special studies, research and projects as assigned.
• Assists Engineering Division staff as needed.

Qualifications:

• Graduate or currently enrolled in a recognized college, university or institution with a minimum of an Associate's degree in civil engineering, construction management, environmental engineering or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. Relevant work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook©, Word©, Excel© and Publisher©) as well as ARC Map© GIS and/or AutoCAD© programs.
• Must hold a valid driver's license.
• Shall have the ability to obtain a certification in the following within 12 months of hire:
  • 1)Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER)
  • 2) Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC)

Salary: $58,000-$68,000 per year, depending on qualifications
