Senior Consultant, Environmental Design Engineer (Mid-Level)

ERM is seeking a Senior Consultant, Environmental Engineer with experience in Civil, Environmental or Geotechnical design experience to work with our engineering design team led out of Charleston, West Virginia. This role can be located in West Virginia, Indianapolis, Philadelphia or St Louis. In this role, you will provide strong team support for civil, stormwater, water management, geotechnical and/or similar related projects based on background and interest. These services are provided for clients locally, nationally and globally. This position provides opportunity for the successful candidate to participate in challenging projects across multiple industry sectors including the electric power (solar, wind and fossil fuel) industry, natural gas providers, regional and global manufacturing, chemical industry among others.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will contribute your knowledge, work ethic, and technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base while networking with ERM's global technical teams and technology experts to utilize best practices from around the industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to make the transition to mid-level engineering responsibilities and eventually look to advancing their career toward Project Management.
Key Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical or related engineering field.
- Fundamentals of Engineering exam completion is a plus.
- At least 3 years of progressively more complex engineering design experience, including consulting for private-sector clients. Solid understanding of the process for generating issued for bid and issued for construction drawings.
- Experience preparing technical bid specifications and drawing sets.
- Consideration will also be made for candidates with strong field experience including construction inspection/oversight in earlier parts of their career.
- Competency in AutoCAD Civil 3D including grading, profiles, and integrating survey data desired but not required. Candidate should have a competent background in AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite software.
- Demonstrated ability to research and prepare memorandums, field reports and assigned sections of reports.
- Attention to detail in reviewing your own work and in providing guidance to junior staff on deliverables.
- Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a project team.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, which includes being comfortable and effective at discussing project specifics both internally and externally and being able to effectively communicate with regulatory personnel and relay information to the Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Ability to efficiently work from a remote location and provide dependable communication of schedule, work products and tasks or yourself and the teams you will work with.
- This position will focus on civil design and environmental support projects for our clients which include a mixture of application and practice of site civil, stormwater management and geotechnical engineering design and associated permitting and permit compliance.
- Work collaboratively as a Task Lead with ERM Project Managers, Principal Consultants and Partners to provide industry-leading service to a portfolio of clients.
- The successful candidate will support the team including engaging in project meetings, conducting research, field work, monitoring the work of more junior staff, and be responsible for thoughtful and high quality deliverables.
- Engaged in multiple projects concurrently. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse.
- Manage assigned tasks to project budgets and scope.
- Be able to prepare for, execute and debrief effectively regarding assigned field work.
- Managing health, safety, and risk aspects of a project in compliance with ERM’s world class Health and Safety Program.
- As assigned by the Project Manager, act as a Client point of contact, and communicate with the engineering/permitting team.
- Generate draft technical reports.
- As assigned, engage with regulatory agencies, including local and state officials for permitting.
