Job Description:

Business Title:  Director, Global Field Applications Engineering

Reports To:  VP Product and Strategy

Position Description:

The Global Director of Field Applications Engineering will develop customer applications in the field, working directly with customers to understand their specific needs and implement CARR cutting-edge technology to optimize their processes. With a primary focus of supporting the sale and placement of new equipment, this leader will attend customer meetings (virtual and in-person) as a technical subject matter expert and conduct equipment demonstrations. Further, they will represent the company at technical and trade conferences, writing and presenting papers and posters to showcase our expertise. Finally, as the direct leader to the Field Applications Engineers, they will provide coaching and mentorship to the Field Applications Engineers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Develop customer applications in the field. Work directly with customers (and indirectly through leadership of Field Applications Engineers) to understand their specific needs and to implement our technology and support process optimization. Support the sale and placement of new equipment by attending customer meetings as technical SME as well as performing equipment demonstrations. Document examples of CARR and competitive product performance advantages and challenges. Develop, implement, and maintain a process to flow such information to the Product Team. Attend technical and trade conferences, write and present papers and posters. Lead, coach, and mentor the Field Applications engineers on all aspects the above. Provide consultation and input, as internal SME, to new product development efforts. Build the technical knowledge that brings sufficient value for customers to enable future-state of fee-for-service process development and optimization services.

Supervisory/Responsibility:

  • This position is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the Field Applications Engineers.
  • The role requires effective coordination with internal and external teams to ensure project objectives are met and standards are maintained.
  • The role must create the conditions and processes needed to streamline and improve efficiency of the Field Applications Engineering team and CARR business processes.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related Engineering field.
  • A minimum of 8 years proven experience in bioprocessing (Advanced Therapies preferred) and single-use technologies required.
  • Experience in product development and in customer-facing technical support or collaborative roles strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with experience in public speaking and technical writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various departments and with external stakeholders.

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory Environment: Time will be spent in a laboratory setting for conducting experiments and supporting customer processes. This includes the use of specialized equipment to handle biological and chemical materials safely.
  • Office Environment: When not in the laboratory, work will be conducted in an office setting, which involves data analysis, process documentation, and collaboration with the product and marketing teams. This also includes preparing technical reports, writing papers, and developing presentations.
  • Field Support: The role requires frequent on-site visits to provide support to field applications engineers, customers, or to conduct field trials and experiments.
