PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of this job is to provide expertise in a focused area of the business through analysis and understanding of business needs. This position exists to partner with technology on department systems while demonstrating a fundamental knowledge of the business area's processes and best practices. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in project and strategy meetings to increase company market share.

  • Identifies blind spots in our strategic plans and formulates and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Identifies and presents thoughtful recommendations to business stakeholders on new products, rating plans, and market segments that would complement our product portfolio within existing states.
  • Analyzes cost center expenses, business processes, and other available internal and external data sources to identify operational inefficiencies and recommends changes to department leaders.
  • Advises the business teams regarding implementations impacting our business processes and technology.
  • Provides expertise and support to internal Team Members and others as needed. 

Develops and implements business strategy projects.

  • Assists with overall project planning for multiple projects.
  • Contributes to and creates project definition documents for assigned projects.
  • Organizes, leads, and finalizes design review sessions to draft business requirements.
  • Documents and presents resulting decisions from design review sessions.
  • Assists in creating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) test plans and coordinates with Team Members to execute test plans.
  • Partners with company stakeholders in the development of business strategies, planning, and forecasts for the line of business.

Collaborates with multiple teams within the company to help drive business strategy implementations.

  • Identifies new opportunities for collaboration across departments by sharing data, optimizing workflows, or enhancing use of technology to solve business challenges.
  • Works with the business units, IT, and legal teams to identify and develop materials to support department needs.
  • Partners closely with the enterprise business intelligence team in the development of reporting and analytics tools.
  • Performs business analyses and evaluates the impact of alternative management decisions on company business and financial performance.
  • Partners with business and data analytics team to design new and innovative tools to create efficiencies, generate new insights, and drive additional revenue potential.
  • Partners with IT teams on department systems and processes in order to push critical systems and projects. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Business, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required, or equivalent work experience. Minimum 2 years of related experience required. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

None required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 

  • Familiarity and/or working knowledge of business analysis required.
  • Strong Excel skills required.
  • Prior experience in the Insurance industry or project management a plus.
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation insurance principles and practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of SQL or VBA a plus.
  • Ability to understand business complexity; intellectual curiosity and the ability to question status quo. 
  • Ability to create and interpret user needs into specifications.
  • Ability to learn how to write business requirements and test specifications. 
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills with particular attention to detail required.
