General Description and Classification Standards 

Ensures that life and property is protected by enforcing all City statutes and ordinances and the laws and regulations of the state. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: patrolling airport facilities to ensure safety; assisting fellow officers and with interdepartmental duties and City activities; responding to the needs of the general public by performing rescues, giving information and directions, mediating disputes and deterring criminal activity within the airport campus; compiling reports; and maintaining and updating records for proper documentation. 

Supervision Received 

Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Responds to accident calls and gathers information at the accident scene; investigates and reconstructs serious injury or fatal accidents and interviews victims and witnesses. 
  • Investigates reported crimes by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informants. 
  • Determines reasonable suspicion to detain and/or parole cause to search; pursues fleeing and subdues resisting suspects and processes and transports prisoners. 
  • Enters or retrieves data to/from computer system including stolen property, arrest and wanted information, investigation data, criminal records check, etc. 
  • Identifies illegal drugs and hazardous materials and remains knowledgeable of prescription drugs. 
  • Utilizes and maintains weapons and equipment, including radar speed detection device, gun, nightstick, handcuffs, flashlight, etc. in functional and presentable conditions. 
  • Meets firearm proficiency requirements at prescribed departmental levels. 

Decision Making 

Uses independent judgment and discretion in the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards and resolving problems. 

Leadership Provided 

Provides guidance and training as required to lower level, interns, temporary employees, etc. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. 

  • Knowledge of local ordinances and law enforcement, arrest and courtroom practices, policies and procedures as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. 
  • Skill in effectively communicating and interacting with supervisors, elected officials, employees, members of the public. 
  • Ability to follow all precautionary measures when dealing with suspects who are known to be dangerous and ability to remain calm in emergency and/or life threatening situations. 

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Preferred Education & Experience 

1 year experience in a law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

Licensures and Certifications 

Valid Georgia driver’s license is required.
