The Position
Due to the continued expansion of our business, Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) is seeking a Senior Valuation Analyst for the Transaction Services (TS) group within our Finance department.
The TS group is an integral part of our internal team, focused on enhancing our investment processes through expert guidance on valuation, structuring, capital management optimization, and financial reporting. The TS team collaborates closely with LMI’s investment professionals to navigate complex transactions and events across all phases of the transaction process. This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage in a range of challenging projects across a diverse investment portfolio, offering significant exposure to financial analysis, capital markets, and financial modeling related to alternative assets, including private credit, private equity, real estate, joint ventures, natural resources, and derivatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance valuation models for LMI’s portfolio of alternative investments, including private credit (asset-based lending, lower/middle market direct lending, high yield, and structured products), private equity, partnership interests, joint ventures, real estate, options, warrants, and other derivative products.
- Collaborate closely with external valuation partners to ensure that critical reporting deadlines and deliverables are met in accordance with service agreements.
- Prepare comprehensive valuation memoranda and supporting documentation for presentation to the LMI Valuation Committee on a quarterly basis.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure thorough documentation of valuation-related procedures and controls.
- Provide ad hoc advisory services to senior management related to portfolio monitoring, new investment strategies, asset acquisitions, divestitures, and restructurings.
- Establish and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with LMI investment teams, Corporate Finance, external valuation partners, external auditors, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience, including experience in a valuation capacity at a professional services/Big 4 firm or investment management firm.
- Demonstrated progress towards achieving the CFA designation or CPA credential.
- Proficient in financial modeling and valuation techniques, including discounted cash flow analysis, recovery/liquidation analysis, financial statement review, credit monitoring, and market data analysis.
- Experience in identifying valuation issues, conducting research, and presenting solutions while leveraging a solid understanding of complex financial instruments and valuation concepts.
